Who has won the most Player of the Year titles in PGA Tour history?

The PGA Tour has handed out Player of the Year awards since 1990. This award is also known as the Jack Nicklaus Award. The award is voted for any PGA Tour player by the PGA Tour players.

Wayne Levi won the first POY, and Tiger Woods has won it 11 times, the highest number in the PGA Tour's history.

Woods' first award came in 1997, following his maiden major title. He then bagged five Player of the Year awards in a row from 1999 to 2003. The 15x major winner's next awards came in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2013.

Rory McIlroy has the second-highest number of POY awards, the Irishman having won it 3 times. Third on the list are Fred Couples, Nick Price, Dustin Johnson, and Scottie Scheffler, with two POYs each.

Scheffler won the Player of the Year award for 2023 and 2022. The World No. 1 thus also became the first player to win two POYs in a row since Woods in '06 and '07.

Apart from these golfers, Patrick Cantlay won the POY in 2021, and Brooks Koepka in 2018. Justin Thomas received POY in 2017 and Jordan Spieth bagged the award in 2015. Other POY winners of the PGA Tour include Luke Donald (2011), Vijay Singh (2004), Greg Norman (1995), and Fred Couples (1991).

What was Scottie Scheffler's reaction after winning the Player of the Year award in 2023 in a row?

After winning last year's POY award, Scottie Scheffler shared how much the trophy meant to him, with his peers voting for the award. He added that he was proud of his consistency.

“Anything that you receive voted on by your peers is very special to me and being able to go home with this trophy two years in a row now is very special…the body of work I put in last year … I was very proud of that consistency,” he said ( via CBC Sports).

Scheffler added he thought he played solid golf throughout the year.

“The way I played the entire year — I think I maybe only had one or two starts that I would categorize as not great, but other than that I had a lot of starts where I just played really solid golf. And to do that for an entire season out here I think is very difficult,” Scheffler added.

The 2023 Player of the Year award for Scheffler's came after a season of consistency. He had three wins last season, including the Players Championship, and had 15 top-ten finishes in the season.
