PGA Tour pro Michael Kim opened up about watching Reed Hughes play at the 2024 Sanderson Farms Championship. The American golfer teed it up at this week's PGA Tour event, which began with its first round on Thursday, October 3, at The Country Club of Jackson.
The tournament features the likes of Beau Hossler, Rickie Fowler, and Henrik Norlander. Additionally, 71-year-old Reed Hughes also joined the field, earning his spot after winning the 2023 Gulf States E-Z-GO Section Championship.
Michael Kim was surprised to see Hughes playing at the event, and following the first round on Thursday, October 3, he shared his honest reaction to watching Hughes. Kim wrote:
"He was in the physio trailer today and many players and I thought, whose dad is this and why is he in the player only trailer?😅😂 So much respect to Reed for qualifying this week. Hope he’s getting some cool memories and lots of support!"
Michael Kim had a good start to the 2024 Sanderson Farms Championship, shooting 6-under to kick off his outing and settling into a tie for 14th place. Meanwhile, the 71-year-old Reed Hughes also played some good shots in the first round, finishing in 129th place.

Hughes started his campaign at the 2024 Sanderson Farms Championship on the first tee hole with a par. He fared well on the front nine and shot a birdie on the second hole. However, he then struggled with his game and went on to add two more bogeys on the fourth and sixth holes.
The 71-year-old carded three birdies and two bogeys on the front nine. He had a decent outing on the front nine but struggled on the back nine, where he shot two double bogeys on the 11th and 13th holes. The American golfer also recorded a bogey on the back nine and a birdie on the 14th, settling for a score of 4-over 76.
Michael Kim, on the other hand, started his game on the tenth hole. He played a bogey-free round on Thursday with six birdies. He began his round with a par and then hit three birdies on the front nine, adding three more on the back nine. He settled in a tie for 14th place.
Meanwhile, David Skinns took the lead after the opening round of the Sanderson Farms Championship, shooting a round of 12-under 60 to take a three-stroke lead over Michael Thorbjornsen.
Reed Hughes will tee off for the second round of the Sanderson Farms Championship on Friday, October 4, on the tenth hole. He will play in a group with Kevin Dougherty and Parker Coody at 8:55 a.m. CDT. Meanwhile, Michael Kim will start his game on the first hole at 8:33 a.m. CDT in a group with David Lipsky and Dylan Wu.
