Why did Billy Horschel withdraw from the 2024 3M Open?

Billy Horschel withdrew from the 2024 3M Open before the beginning of the first round. The 3M Open is currently underway at the TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota and will end on July 28th.

Horschel is coming off a narrow loss at the 2024 Open Championship. He finished T2 alongside Justin Rose, two strokes behind the winner Xander Schauffele.

Horschel has withdrawn from the 3M Open due to illness. After feeling unwell the night before the tournament's first round, Horschel said his 'body was just not cooperating'. Adam Long will take his place at the 2024 3M Open.

Disappointed in not being able to play, Horschel said to the PGA Tour:

"Yeah, it was unfortunate. I wasn't feeling great late last night and took some medicine. Woke up, had decent sleep but woke up and just have a fever, body is just not wanting to respond, every muscle feels like it's locked up."

Earlier this week, Horschel had reassured fans that he was committed to playing the 3M Open. He was quoted as saying at the pre-tournament press conference (via the Golf Channel):

"When I commit to something I try to hold to that commitment unless crazy circumstances arises. But when you're playing well you want to continue to play well."

Instead of Billy Horschel, Adam Long will now tee off at 1:43pm ET alongside Sam Burns and JT Poston.
