Why are fans banned from attending the Wyndham Championship round 1?

Fans have been banned from attending the first round of the 2024 Wyndham Championship due to the dangerous weather conditions. The tournament is scheduled from August 8 to 11 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The weather at the location can be adversely affected due to remnants of Tropical Storm Debby. The PGA Tour has announced that spectators can use their tickets for Thursday (August 8) on any other single day until the tournament concludes.

Tournament Director Bobby Powell said (via Wyndham Championship):

"This decision was a difficult one for us to make with our partners at the PGA TOUR, but everyone’s safety is our top priority. The most recent forecast looks like the storm could clear our area sometime Friday."

Eight inches of rain is predicted for Thursday and Friday, the first two days of the Wyndham Championship. Wind gusts in the range of 25 mph to 40 mph are predicted as per Accuweather.
