Tiger Woods has dismissed the retirement rumors after his disappointing outing at the Open Championship 2024. He has made it clear that he will return next year at Royal Portrush.
On Friday, July 19, Tiger Woods carded a 6-over 77 in the second round of the Open Championship 2024 to aggregate at 14-over after 36 holes. He missed the cut by a whopping eight strokes, marking his third straight missed cut this season.
Following his exit at Royal Troon, Woods announced that he'll be returning next year at Royal Portrush, the venue for the next Open Championship.
Fans online had a mixed reaction to Tiger Woods' announcement. Many fans were excited with this while some felt his time was up.
"Why?" one fans asked
"He will set the record for most missed cuts at an Open for a past champion! He doesn’t care, as long as it’s a record," another fan wrote.
"Every champ under 60 is entitled to a spot, so not really a waste. It's something champions have earned and tiger has won this thing 3 times. He deserves it," this fan posted.
"His game now seems like it’s built for links golf, and yet he can’t put it together at all. I hope he plays 8-10 events instead of just the majors over the next year," this fan commented.
"Boring boring boring ! Enough already it’s embarrassing," another fan wrote.
"idk why hes taking a break when its obvious he should be playing more very confusing," one fan remarked.
How did Tiger Woods perform at the Open Championship 2024?
Tiger Woods made his fifth start of the season at the Open Championship 2024. Fans didn't expect much from him but hoped to see some good golf. However, he had a forgettable week at Royal Troon.
Woods carded a 79 in the opening round and made just two birdies. His round featured six bogeys and two double bogeys. The second round was not better either, as he shot 6-over 77 and picked up just one birdie. He made five bogeys and one double bogey on second day at Royal Troon.
The 15-time major champion announced last month that the Open Championship would be his final event of the season. It is not clear when he will compete next, but he is expected to play in a couple of non-official events later this year.
