Charley Hull withdrew from the first round of the Ladies European Tour Aramco Team Series London on Wednesday, July 3. Althoughno further details were initially given about her withdrawal, it was later announced that she did so due to a shoulder injury.
Hull posted on Instagram stories:
"Today I had to withdraw from @aramcoteamseries London following medical advice, due to ongoing pain in my right shoulder following a nasty fall on Sunday night."
"I'm so disappointed as I always love playing in this series, particularly infront of a home crowd. Sorry to the fans who came out to watch, my playing partners for leaving you after 6 holes, and to all those behind the scenes who work tirelessly to make these events run so well."
Charley Hull teed off in the Aramco Team Series London, teaming up with compatriot Annabel Dimmock and Austrian Christine Wolf, as well as an amateur player. Hull only completed six holes of the first round before withdrawing.
Leona Maguire leads the Aramco Team Series London individual contest after two rounds, with a score of 8 under. Georgia Hall, who captained the champion team in London in 2023, is second, two strokes behind Maguire.
The Aramco Team Series consists of five events (London is the third) where 36 teams of three professional players and one amateur each compete. The general format is stroke play, but the two best scores of each team on each hole are considered for the collective result.
An individual event follows in parallel. The defending individual champion, Nelly Korda, was unable to defend her 2023 title, as she withdrew due to a dog bite.
A look at Charley Hull's performance in the Aramco Team Series
The Aramco Team Series debuted in 2020, and Charley Hull has been one of the main stars in its field. In fact, Hull has participated in 14 of the 18 events that have been played in the series.
The Englishwoman's results in the Aramco Team Series have been outstanding. She won the individual event in New York in 2021 and finished runner-up on four occasions (Jeddah 2022, London 2023, Tampa 2024 and Seoul 2024).
Moreover, she has finished in seven other top-10s and has never missed the cut. Her worst result was T58 in the New York 2022 event.
Additionally, Charley Hull has finished second twice in the team event. The first time was at the London 2023 event, where she captained the team of Hayley Davis, Isabella Deilert and amateur Teddy Sheringham.
Charley Hull finished runner-up in the team event at the Tampa 2024 tournament, leading a team of Kelsey Macdonald, Pia Babnik and amateur Alexandra O'Laughlin.
