Seamus Power, who is playing at this week's Irish Open, has recently given a startling update about his health. The Irish golfer revealed that he has some issues in his left arm and will be going for "tests" next week. He is playing this week, but will miss upcoming tournaments on the DP World Tour. However, he added he hopes to compete in some tournaments on the DP World Tour.
Power has not shared many details about his health but did open up about his check-up. Moreover, he also spoke about missing the upcoming BMW Open and the previously-held British Masters.
Power said (via ASAP Sports):
"I have a thing on the left arm I was dealing with, so I have to go back next week."
He further talked about his schedule. Power said he was preparing to compete at the BMW PGA Championship but will now probably miss that.
"I was planning to play the British Masters and the BMW PGA next week. But I got a chunk taken off my arm and I have to go back next week to have more tests and make sure it’s okay. But I am planning to squeeze in two more events somewhere, so it doesn’t matter to me where," he added (via The Sun).
If Power misses the upcoming events, he may find it difficult to earn a spot for the 2025 Ryder Cup. To qualify for the biennial tournament, one must have a DP World Tour card, if playing for the European Team.
To maintain membership on the European Tour, players must compete in at least four events on the circuit in a particular season. However, Power has not played in any events on the DP World Tour this season so far. The Irish Open, which will conclude on Sunday, September 15, is his first event on the DP World Tour.
Seamus Power struggles with opening round 74 at 2024 Irish Open
Power teed it up at the ongoing Amgen Irish Open on Thursday, September 12. However, he struggled in the opening round and shot 3-over par 74. He had a rough start to the event, encountering difficulties while playing on the front nine.
The Irishman shot two back-to-back bogeys on the first and second holes and then added two more bogeys on the fourth and fifth holes. He shot five bogeys on the front but was fortunate to card two birdies on the back nine, settling for 3-over par.
The second round of the Irish Open has also started. At the time of writing, Power has not started his second round.
At the time of writing, the projected cutline is 2-over. Power thus sits below the projected cutline, but with a decent chance of making the cut and competing in the final two rounds.
