Xander Schauffele is representing Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He is the defending champion as he won a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The American golfer is currently in contention to win his second gold medal at the Le Golf National golf course.
His wife Maya posted a picture on her Instagram story of his father wearing Team USA gear and smoking a cigarette on the final day of the men's golf event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The American golfer has had his father support him through various events. Xander and his dad share a love for cigars, and the father-son duo has been seen celebrating wins with cigars. He has spoken previously about this hobby shared with his father.
Stefan is present at Le Golf National on the final day as his son is in contention today to win his second medal in the Olympics.
Xander Schauffele wants his father to enjoy life
Xander Schauffele is a family man and shares a special bond with his father, Stefan Schauffele. Schauffele has always celebrated his victories with his dad, and he was one of the few who were present as Schauffele won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Stefan has worked with Xander as his swing instructor since childhood. He was also his swing instructor at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and assisted his son throughout the event.
The two-time major championship winner has since changed his swing coach. Schauffele said he wants his dad to do what he wants and not watch him hit balls all day long on the driving range.
“I’m 30 years old now, and once you have success, it's always my goal, I want my dad to be happy and I want him to do what he wants to do,” Schauffele said. "He's going to turn 60 this year. I don't think he wants to sit on the range, 95 degrees and watch me pound golf balls all day. I wouldn't want to do that when I'm 60."
Schauffele also said his goal now is to take away "hats" from his father so he can relax and enjoy his life, as the latter has helped him a lot over the years.
"We'll see, I guess. As the years have gone on, I've been trying to take hats away from him just so he can relax a little bit and enjoy his life a little bit more since he's helped me so much," Xander concluded.
