Xander Schauffele will play at The Sentry Tournament in 2025, and before the event begins on Thursday, the golfer detailed his struggles from the 2024 season. During a press conference at the Kapalua Plantations Course on December 31, the American golfer shared the reason behind taking a couple of weeks off from competitive golf.
Schauffele said that his golf swing was "uncomfortable" and he was working on it.
“I would say everything I was working on with [coach] Chris [Como] last year is still not, you know - it feels like my swing, it's still something that's a little bit uncomfortable. As long as I'm producing good shots I feel the confidence to keep moving in the right direction, and obviously got a lot of confidence after some results last year. But some of the same stuff, getting the club in certain positions and trying to move the correct way - so a lot of the same, to be honest,” Xander Schauffele said.
Schauffele played at The Sentry Tournament in 2024 and finished in 10th place 24 under 268.
Xander Schauffele reflects upon his continuous drill with coach Chris Como to play better golf
In the same interview, Xander Schauffele was asked whether there was room for betterment after he won two majors in 2024. He won the PGA Championship and The Open Championship with 21 under and 9 under, respectively.
"I think so. There's certain times when you're trying to push your swing to a certain place or you stack two, three good weeks in a row, and you feel really good. I would say that was sort of last year, was Quail Hollow [Golf Club]. Going into Valhalla [Golf Course], I felt really good. The Open Championship is a different beast, you're just trying to keep the ball in play, keep it low, leave it on right side of the hole with the wind," Xander Schauffele said.
"So two completely different sort of styles of golf that cater to different things from your game. Yeah, I'm excited. I'm excited to keep working with [coach] Chris [Como] and sort of see how well we can put the full swing together."
Apart from The Sentry, Schauffele had 14 other top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour including his two major victories in 2024.
