Xander Schauffele had one of the best years any golfer has had in a long while, winning two (his very first two) Majors. To have that level of success, Schauffele believes he needed to be selfish.

Ahead of the Presidents Cup, he told the reporters:

"I think so. I tell my wife that. I don't know if she's the hugest fan of that. But I'm pretty selfish."

As for how that pertains to the Presidents Cup, a team event, he said the captains do a good job keeping everyone straight.

"All of us need to do what we normally do, and there's a lot of stuff that we don't normally do during an individual week that we do during a team week, whether it's sort of the timed dinners or photos or a gala or you name it."

The two-time Major champion continued praising the captains of Team USA, which includes Jim Furyk, saying that they've done "an incredible job." Schauffele added:

"The supporting staff on TOUR have done an incredible job making sure that we can do what we need to do to get ready and compete like normal people."

Schauffele will join Scottie Scheffler, Keegan Bradley, Wyndham Clark, Collin Morikawa, Tony Finau, Sahith Theegala, and the rest of Team USA this weekend. They will all have to be selfish for each other to retain the Presidents Cup trophy one more time. They have dominated the event all time, only losing and tying one time each.

Xander Schauffele addresses potential future captaincy

Eventually, Xander Schauffele won't be a player for the United States in either the Presidents Cup or the Ryder Cup. When that time comes, he could be a captain, as his success and experience make him a desirable candidate for the United States should they need one.

As for whether or not he even wants to do that, Schauffele hasn't thought about it yet since he's still playing and playing well. He told the reporters:

"I'm too young to think about that. If I was the captain I would definitely fight -- there's so much stuff that goes into it. It's easy to make a comment as a player on what we should or shouldn't do and there's a lot that goes into it to make certain sponsors happy, the people happy, all those things, and without a certain support group we wouldn't have a tournament."

Xander Schauffele said it was easy to talk from his current standing, but that he doesn't have any intentions of eventually becoming a captain. For now, he wants to continue competing and winning for himself and his team.
