Xander Schauffele reveals he calls his dad 'Ogre' and his mom 'Hamster'

Xander Schauffele doesn't call his parents Mom and Dad but has unique nicknames for them. The American golfer is competing at this week's Zozo Championship. He is in Japan for the competition. His mother, Chen Ping Yi, grew up in the country.

Recently, Xander Schauffele shared his experience of playing in Japan with his family around and also revealed that he doesn't call his parents mom and dad but calls them "Hamster" and "Ogre." Revealing the reason for the unique name, the two-time Major winner stated that one day he just "for some reason" called his mom a hamster, and ever since then he has called her by that name.

"Xander doens't call US mom and dad. He calls Stefan, "Ogre" and he calls me "Hamster," said his mom.

Speaking of parents, Schauffele said:

"It's just an endearing term. My mom's ....She's very, very little and very adorable. And for some reason, one day, I just called her a hamster."

Xander Schauffele has Asian roots, and he revealed that he enjoys playing in Japan.

"I'm the only one born in the U.S. in my family but for me to be here it definitely feels like home. There are always like, a really loving warm touch from my mom. Contrary, you know, to how my dad can be at times, being the big , brash dude."

Intriguingly, he even won his Olympic gold medal in Tokyo, Japan, in 2020. Schauffele mother also opened up about her son and said:

"What makes me very proud is that, even though he won the gold medal at the Olympics, or has become very famous, he is still the same old Xander."

Schauffele has been playing fairly well but is not in contention to win the Zozo Championship. He started rough with a round of 73, followed by another round of 65.

He shot 68 in the third round, followed by the final round of 69. However, the tournament is still underway, but Schauffele completed his game and finished at 5-under, 11 strokes behind the leader.

Although Xander Schauffele has struggled with his game this week, he has had a phenomenal season. The 31-year-old golfer has won two major championships this year.

The 31-year-old claimed his first major title at the PGA Championship and went on to win the Open Championship. Meanwhile, on the PGA Tour, he has played in 21 events and made the cut in all of them, recording 15 top-10 finishes. Schauffele also finished as the runner-up at the Players Championship, the Wells Fargo Championship, and the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
