Xander Schauffele's caddie, Austin Kaiser, reflected on the American golfer's incredible 2024. Schauffele has won two major championships in a season and recorded some impressive finishes.
Xander Schauffele started playing golf as a professional in 2015, and it took him nine years to seize his first Major win. In the last few years, he came very close to winning one but struggled at the last moment.
He finished runner-up at the Masters in 2019 and at the Open Championship in 2018. However, in 2024, Schauffele won his maiden Major at the PGA Championship and later clinched the trophy of his second Major at the Open Championship.
Recently, Xander Schauffele's caddie, Austin Kaiser, opened up about the World No. 2's wild season in an interview with SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio. He said:
"It was amazing. I mean just if you would have said we're going to get two Majors in 2024 after, you know, we've had all those close calls, I would have just laughed. There's no way I mean it will take one right now the way we've been knocking on the door but to get two is just if it's wild.
"You know and they both mean so much to me because I you know go out there and think I work hard to help him as much as possible when he pulls through it feels like an accomplishment for both of us. It was a big season you know I'm proud you....I get emotional thinking about those Sundays," he added.
Xander Schauffele started with a solid round of 62 at the 2024 PGA Championship. He held an impressive game throughout the four rounds, then shot 68 and 68, and wrapped up the final round with a 65 to register a one-shot win over Bryson DeChambeau.
Later, at the Open Championship, he started the game with a round of 69 but then struggled in the second round and shot 72. The American carded a round of 69 on the third day and then finally shot 65 to register a two-shot win over Billy Horschel and Justin Rose.
"No one better to share it than Austin" - Xander Schauffele credits his caddie for winning The Open Championship
Schauffele clinched his second Major title at the Royal Troon by two shots. He was pretty impressive with his game and registered an easy win. The 31-year-old lauded praise on his caddie and appreciated him. He said (via PGA Tour):
"I made sure I walked up the final green with Austin (Kaiser, his caddie) by my side. He's one of my best friends, and it's a team thing. I'm the one hitting the shots, but at the end of the day, it's a team thing. It's a team environment that I like to have for my team. I was marching, and I was just trying to focus. In my head, I was like, “You're about to have your moment here, and no one better to share it than Austin because he deserves it as well.”
Xander Schauffele and Austin Kaiser have been working together since the American turned pro. They have a spectacular partnership and have enjoyed an incredible career so far.
Schauffele has won 12 professional tournaments so far in his career, including clinching nine PGA Tour events. He has also won four European Tour events and claimed the gold medal at the Olympics in 2021.
