Venezuelan professional golfer Jhonattan Vegas recently registered a victory at the 3M Open. Vegas carded 68-66-63-70 at the TPC Twin Cities golf course to claim his first PGA Tour win in seven years. His previous victory had been at the RBC Canadian Open in 2017.

After Jhonattan Vegas won the 3M Open, his coach Rick Smith gave away the secret to success. During an appearance on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio, Smith discussed Vegas' victory with Rocco Mediate. He spoke about the secret of winning and said:

"The fact of the matter is, in all these players, and there is some great players that are on tour listed in the show... You don't have to be perfect for 72 holes. Good example, he shoot 63, 8 under, and blowing winds. You know, easier pins for sure but he had like a 30 on one of the other nine's. He didn't have it maybe altogether. His shoulder was bothering him and I am nervous because I go why is he not 20 under? That is how I am with you guys. I was expecting the best."

Apart from coaching, he is also a skilled golf course designer and has earned a lot of recognition for the same.

Jhonattan Vegas said he was not feeling 100 percent at the 3M Open

Before competing at the 3M Open, Jhonattan Vegas had competed at the John Deere Classic where he tied for 20th place. While Vegas was a +5500 favorite as per CBS, the Venezuelan golfer defied the odds to register his first win on the tour in seven years.

Vegas beat American golfer Max Greyserman to win the 3M Open by a margin of one stroke. However, it seems that he was not feeling 100 percent on the day he won. After his victory, the 39-year-old was involved in a conversation with Amanda Balionis from CBS Sports.

Speaking about his victory and how he felt while playing at the TPC Twin Cities, Vegas said:

"It was very hard day for me. I wasn't feeling 100 percent, which is something I have been battling for the past few weeks as well. So, it took a lot. It really makes a win the super special, especially how my little ones are here."

Due to his victory at the 3M Open, Jhonattan Vegas has jumped 235 spots in the Official World Golf Ranking. While Vegas was once ranked 321st, he is currently ranked 86th. This jump has seen Vegas go past golfers like Jordan Spieth (100th) and Joaquin Niemann (114th).
