The first leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs kicked off this week with the 2024 St. Jude Championship in Memphis. Only the top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings are competing in the event.

There is no cut line for any of the playoff events, so all golfers will compete in all rounds and receive a share of the total prize money based on their rankings. The playoff prize purse has been greatly increased by the Tour, bringing the 50th rank up to par with the 30th.

When questioned regarding the same, PGA Tour golfer Kevin Kisner claimed that he wasn't sure if 50 was the new 30 on the PGA Tour.

“Hell, no, the average age these days is about 25,” he claimed.

He was quickly corrected to say that the statement referred to the FedEx Cup standings, not age.

"Get in the top 50 and you’re set for your schedule all year, you’re gonna play for a pile of money, and you’ve got all the chances in the world," Kisner said.

Unfortunately, Kisner has not made it to the playoffs this year, as he finished 198th in the season-long standings. In the 18 events that he competed in, he managed to make the cut in just 5 events, and his best finish was T33 at the 3M Open.

The second leg of the playoff begins next week, with only the top 50 ranked golfers making it to the 2024 BMW Championship. The top 30 will then proceed to the finale, The Tour Championship.
