"Oh, sh*t, am I actually in this?"- Victor Perez recalls dream finish at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Victor Perez came incredibly close to earning France a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Frenchman put on a great show at the challenging Le Golf National course with a final round score of eight under par 63, comprising of a whopping six birdies and one eagle.

With Jon Rahm falling out of his solo lead, Perez fired up an impeccable back nine after a bogey-free front nine score of two under par 34. Having made par on holes ten and eleven, the 32-year-old had an amazing streak from holes 12 to 16. He interrupted back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th hole with an amazing eagle on the par five 14th hole of Le Golf National.

Working on confidence built during the past few holes, he made two more consecutive birdies to end the back nine with an astounding six under par 29. However, it wasn't until after his eagle that Perez realized that he is in contention for a medal. Here's what the Olympian had to say to Golf Digest about his emotions

"I would say I was enjoying up until 14 and once you eagle 14, you're like, 'oh sh*t, am I actually in this?'"

Perez finished with a total score of 16 under par for the event and landed just one stroke behind bronze medalist, Hideki Matsuyama. Despite the near-miss, Perez is filled with gratitude and is content with the result. He said:

"Obviously great round. I don't think there's any shots that I could have picked up on that back nine for sure, even on the front nine. I think I played really well."
