He participated in the 2014 Eisenhower Trophy event as an amateur, having previously represented Taiwan on the 2006 team. During his amateur career, he won nine amateur titles between 2011 and 2015.
Pan attended the IMG Academy in Florida, followed by the University of Washington, before turning professional in 2015. He initially played on the Web.com Tour and the PGA Tour Canada; eventually, he joined the PGA Tour in 2017. He made history in 2019 by winning at the RBC Heritage and becoming the second Taiwanese golfer to win on the PGA Tour.
Pan won two gold medals at the 2014 Asian Games and represented Taiwan in the 2016 World Cup of Golf and the 2019 Presidents Cup. The next year, at the 2020 Olympics, he brought home a bronze medal for Taiwan.
Has C.T. Pan won an Olympic medal?
Yes, C.T. Pan won a bronze medal in the individual men's at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He also played at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics but finished in 30th place individually.
After four days of competition, Pan finished at 15-under-269, tied for third place with six other players after shooting 63 in the final round.
Seven players stood tied at 15 under after 72 holes: Pan, Hideki Matsuyama (JPN), Collin Morikawa (USA), Rory McIlroy (Ireland), Mito Pereira (Chile), Sebastian Munoz (Colombia), and Paul Casey (Great Britain); thus, all seven went to a playoff until one man stood alone. The playoffs took place at the 10th, 11th, and 18th holes.
Five of the seven were eventually lost after the 11th-hole playoff, leaving only Pan and 2021 Open champion Collin Morikawa for the final hole duel at the 18th. Pan's tee shot went into the rough on the left, and Morikiawa's went into the rough on the right.
Pan's approach went wide of the green, but he landed safely and moved on. But Morikawa's right of the green, though cleared the water, lodged in a greenside bunker's upside lip, presenting him with an almost unfeasible up-and-down.
Morikawa managed to exit and reach the green; however, he stopped just short of the hole. After chipping on, he dragged his par putt long, giving Pan a chance to go for bronze, and with a flawless putt, Pan became an Olympic medalist.
