Patrick Cantlay, a former amateur world No. 1 golfer, was born on March 17, 1992. He attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and in his freshman year, he received the Haskins Award, the Jack Nicklaus Award, and the Mark H. McCormack Medal, among others. He also qualified for the 2011 U.S. Open through qualifying, finished tied for 21st low amateur, and has a 54-week record for being amateur world No. 1.

Cantlay has nine professional victories, including the 2021 Tour Championship, crowning him the 2021 FedEx Cup Champion. Regardless, his most recent victory came in the 2022 BMW Championship, defeating Scott Stalings by one stroke. His Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) are at No. 8 as of July 2024, after finishing tied for third in the 2024 U.S. Open.

Patrick Cantlay Hometown

Patrick Cantlay was born in Long Beach, California, in the United States.

Cantlay was born into the family of Steve and Colleen Cantlay, and by the age of three, he began playing golf. He has two brothers, Nick and Jack Cantlay, and a sister, Caroline. He went to Servite High School, where, as a senior, he took home the California State High School Championship. Then he went to the University of California, Los Angeles.

Cantlay set a course record with a 60-stroke round in June at the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, making it the lowest round in PGA Tour history by an amateur. He tied for 20th place at the AT&T National the following week, where he emerged as the low amateur.

At the San Gabriel Country Club the next week, Cantlay emerged as the winner of the Southern California Amateur. In July of 2011, he participated in the 2011 RBC Canadian Open as a low amateur and tied for ninth place.

Given his excellent amateur career, Cantlay turned professional in 2012, two years before completing his college graduation, and won his first professional title at the 2013 Colombia Championship. However, he had a three-year layoff before his next win, the 2017 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, due to a back injury sustained after joining the PGA Tour in 2014.

In February 2016, Cantlay lost his closest friend and caddie, Chris Roth, 23, in a hit-and-run accident in California. Cantlay tried
