The San Diego Open was its original name in 1952, but it has since undergone multiple sponsorship changes. The tournament is split between two 36-hole golf courses, one in Torrey Pines' north and one in its south. The overall stroke-play format is 72 holes.

On the South Course, where the tournament's final two rounds were played, English shot 1-over 73 in the final round to secure a one-shot victory.
