Rory McIlroy will be turning his attention to the DP World Tour following a fairly decent season on the PGA Tour this year. The Irishman will be teeing it up at the Royal County Down, located just an hour away from his hometown of Holywood, for the 2024 Amgen Irish Open from September 12 to 15.
Playing as the home favorite for this week, the PGA Tour sensation looks forward to performing with the support of his Irish fans. However, it comes with a certain level of added pressure on home soil. McIlroy hopes to keep his head high and inspire the young kids watching him to pursue their dreams just like Tiger Woods and Ernie Els inspired him to be a professional golfer.
Here's what McIlroy had to say during the pre-tournament press conference (via DP World Tour):
"I understand, it's hard to get to everyone but I try to make an effort, especially when I come back here. I don't get to play competitive golf very often back here. So I certainly appreciate the support that I get. And yeah, as you said, to see so many youngsters out there, it's great to see. I try to make sure that they know that it's appreciated and hopefully I can give them something to aspire towards in the future if golf is what they want to do."
