Rory Daniel McIlroy is one of the most sensational golfers out there. Rory Mcilroy was born on May 4, 1989, in Holywood, County Down, Northern Ireland. According to the family legend, he received a new golf club as a gift, was shown the appropriate grip by his father, and then took the club to bed with him that night, with his hands properly holding the club. McIlroy joined Holywood Golf Club at the age of seven, becoming the club's youngest member.
McIlroy's father worked multiple jobs to supplement his son's golf development. His mother worked extra hours at a nearby 3M company. McIlroy's first important international victory came at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami, Florida, in the World Championship for the 9-10 age group bracket. He began his golf career at the Holywood Golf Club, which he still considers his home course. He began his early instruction with Michael Bannon, the former Golf Professional at Holywood Golf Club and his current teacher and mentor.

McIlroy set a new competitive course record of 61 on Royal Portrush Golf Club's Dunluce links in July 2005, when he was 16 years old.
He won the European Amateur at Biella Golf Club near Milan, Italy, in August 2006, with a score of 274. McIlroy represented Ireland in the Eisenhower Trophy, the Amateur World Team Championship, in October 2006. He became the second guy to top the World Amateur Golf Ranking on February 6, 2007, however, he lost the top spot after only one week.
