Rory McIlroy and eleven other players will represent Team Europe at the 2025 Ryder Cup, captained by Luke Donald. With the prestigious match-play tournament scheduled for September 23-28 at the iconic Bethpage Black course, the Irishman shared a motivational video with his 2.9 million Instagram followers.
The 34-year-old re-posted a video from the official Team Europe Instagram page along with a picture of the Europe flag. In the video, the players talk about Luke Donald's dedication to the Ryder Cup and the incredible team spirit. McIlroy said (via @rydercupeurope):
"It [Ryder Cup] became his [Luke Donald] whole world."
The video was a teaser for an upcoming documentary titled "Una Famiglia," which will revisit the team's "emotional victory" at the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome. The Italian title translates to "A Family," reflecting the strong bonds among the players, their countries, fans, and the game of golf. Several players, including McIlroy, discuss Luke Donald's journey to captaincy and emphasize the importance of unity and teamwork within the team.
Rory McIlroy makes a prediction for 2025 Ryder Cup
Following an emotional victory in 2023, Rory McIlroy made a prediction for Team Europe's success at the 2024 Ryder Cup at Bethpage, expressing his pride in being a part of the team and highlighting it as one of his "biggest accomplishments."
He predicted that Europe would emerge victorious in the United States of America in 2025. The last time the Europeans emerged victorious on American soil was in 2012 at the Medina Country Club in Illinois, where McIlroy and Ian Poulter defeated Jason Dufner and Zach Johnson on the final day. Here's what McIlroy said while talking about the victory (via Ryder Cup):
"That's what we're going to do at Bethpage."
Team Europe has stressed that the main reason they play the Ryder Cup with great passion is for the past, present, and future generations of golf. Last year, McIlroy was left wondering about how many more opportunities he would have to serve the team. He said (via Ryder Cup):
"I've said this for the last probably six or seven years to anyone that will listen: I think one of the biggest accomplishments in golf right now is winning an away Ryder Cup. I think as time goes by, this is my seventh Ryder Cup; am I going to play in another seven?" McIlroy pondered. "I don't know. I'm probably on the back nine of my Ryder Cup career, and every one that I get to play in from now on is very, very meaningful."
