Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are the favorites to win "The Showdown", their upcoming match against Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka. The match will be played on December 17 at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas.
However, the favored odds for the PGA Tour's Scheffler and McIlroy over the LIV Golf's DeChambeau and Koepka in the Showdown is "slight," according to Lee Phelps, spokesman for sports betting specialist William Hill (via Golf Monthly):
"We make Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler 8/15 favourites to get the better of LIV partnership Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau."
He added:
"The match will be a fascinating spectacle, with four major winners taking each other on over one round of 18 holes, and despite slightly favouring McIlroy and Scheffler we can't rule out the LIV boys at 11/8."
According to the William Hill platform (as quoted by Golf Monthly), the odds for Scheffler and McIlroy to win the Showdown are -188 to +138 for DeChambeau and Koepka.
The Showdown was announced on September 4 and was originally presented as a team matchup with McIlroy and Scheffler taking on Koepka and DeChambeau. Hours later, all four players confirmed their participation in the event.
It was later announced that although the players were grouped according to the circuit on which they play (PGA Tour and LIV Golf), the Showdown would not be a match between the tours, as the institutions were not involved in the organization of the event as it was an initiative of the players themselves.
The Showdown: Latest information
Since the announcement of the event now known as The Showdown, there have been numerous updates. The first was the announcement of the date and venue (December 17th, Shadow Creek Golf Course, Las Vegas).
It was also announced that the event would be televised by TNT Sports and produced by Hollywood producer and creator of The Match, Bryan Zuriff. However, it was made clear that this event will not be produced under The Match brand.
It is envisioned that the event will become an annual show and will be international in scope. The Middle East is reported to be the main focus in 2025, with Europe to follow.
However, the event would return to the United States every other year. Shadow Creek Golf Course reportedly has a signed contract to host the event for six years.
No details have been released on the format of the competition, other than that it will be a single round of 18 holes. However, it is expected to be a match play format similar to the Ryder Cup.
The PGA Tour has not issued a statement regarding the match. LIV Golf has three posts on its official X account (formerly Twitter) promoting the event. The posts include their players as well as those from the rival circuit.
