Men's golf teams from Europe and the United States compete against one another every two years in the Ryder Cup. Every two years, the contest is held, with European and American golf courses serving as the alternate venues.

The English industrialist Samuel Ryder, who donated the trophy, is honoured with the name "Ryder Cup." The PGA of America and Ryder Cup Europe, a partnership between the PGA European Tour (60%) and the PGAs of Great Britain and Ireland (20%) and Europe (20%), jointly oversee the event.

The inaugural official Ryder Cup was played in the United States in 1927 at Worcester Country Club in Worcester, Massachusetts, where it was initially played between Great Britain and the United States.

The host team won the first five matches, but when the tournament resumed following World War II, the recurrent American dominance eventually led to a decision to expand "Great Britain and Ireland" to include the rest of continental Europe in 1979.

After being postponed in 2001 due to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Ryder Cup switched to even years in 2002. It had previously been staged in odd-numbered years up to that point. After the 2020 event was postponed owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, it returned to odd years in 2021.

After defeating Europe 19-9 at Whistling Straits in 2021, the United States is the current defending champion.

Ryder Cup 2023 Course details

Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome, Italy, is where the 2023 Ryder Cup will take place. The Ryder Cup is held alternately in Europe and the United States. In Sheboygan, Wisconsin, at Whistling Straits, the Ryder Cup of 2021 took place. The 2025 tournament will be place in New York at Bethpage Black.

The golf club was given the name of Marco Simone's castle. It was a Roman-era manor farm that had been fortified. The tower was constructed about the year 1000, and later in the Middle Ages, further structures were constructed around it.

The Italian high fashion designer Laura Biagiotti and her husband, Gianni Cigna, both resided in the rebuilt castle in the 1970s. The golf course had been planned and constructed by 1989. David Mezzacane and Jim Fazio served as the architects.
