Every two years, teams from Europe and the US compete in the Solheim Cup, a professional women's golf event. It bears the name Karsten Solheim in honor of the Norwegian-American golf club manufacturer and founder of Ping, who was instrumental in its development. Europe won the 2023 Solheim Cup after a 14–14 draw.
The event follows a match-play format, running over three days, with four foursomes in the morning and four fourballs in the afternoon among 12 players of each team. Further, each team receives half of a point if, after 18 holes, the score is tied. The Cup was originally held in 1990 and continued in even-numbered years until 2002, when it alternated with the Ryder Cup, which was postponed due to the 9/11 attacks in 2001 and the Solheim Cup was moved to odd-numbered years, only to come back at even numbers after COVID-19 postponed the games again.
Who won the Solheim Cup in 2024?
The 2024 Solheim Cup will take place on September 13–15 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia. This will be the 19th iteration of the event. Thus, the winner of the cup will be updated likewise.
