Stewart Hagestad, an amateur golfer 33 years old, was born in Newport Beach, California, on April 10, 1991. He played collegiate golf with the University of South California Trojans, graduating in 2013.
Including the three U.S. Mid-Amateurs wins in 2016, 2021, and 2023, he has won seven amateur titles. He also represented the United States in the Walker Cup, which the team won in 2017, 2019, and 2022.
As a low amateur, Hagestad also tied for 36th place at the 2017 Masters Tournament, making history as the first amateur player to make the cut. However, as of April 2024, he had not made the cut again.
He also took part in the 2019 Pan American Games, where he won gold in the mixed team competition and finished 13th individually. His fifth major tournament appearance came at the 2022 U.S. Open, where he placed 64th.
However, he has often stated that he does not wish to become a professional golfer, even after having such an exceptional amateur career. For Hagestad, who resides in South Florida and works as a financial analyst for BDT & MSD Capital Partners, based in Chicago, golf is more of a leisure activity.
Stewart Hagestad’s Caddie
Stewart Hagestad’s most recent caddie was John Doherty (J.D.) at the 2024 Masters Tournament; he also caddied for him at the 2017 Masters. Given that Hagestad is an amateur golfer, his caddie is not fixed and is often changing from tournament to tournament.
Willie Deus was Hagestad's caddie at the 2023 U.S. Mid-Amateur. Following his victory, he shared a bear hug with his Sleepy Hollow caddie, Willie Deus, and a trophy photo with his brother George. However, not much is known about Wiillie Deus.
Brent Carlson, also known as "Shakes," caddied for Hagestad during the 2021 Walker Cup. In the U.S. Open, Carlson caddied for Justin Suh, Tom Gillis, and Geoffrey Sisk; in the PGA Championship, he caddied for Jason Caron.
Carlson began working for Suh after the Southern California star turned pro two years ago. However, Suh had a wrist injury, and they broke up when Suh was unable to participate in a major tour.
