The Memorial Tournament, founded and hosted by Jack Nicklaus, began 48 years ago at Dublin, Ohio's Muirfield Village Golf Club. It is one of the eight signature and five invitational tournaments on the PGA Tour.
At the 1966 Masters Tournament, Jack Nicklaus declared his desire to create a competition that, like the Masters, would draw players from around the globe and be shaped by the history and traditions of the game of golf.
In mid-1974, Niklaus designed the golf course at Muirfield Village, north of Columbus, which played host to the inaugural Memorial Tournament in 1976. The initial 7,072 yards of the par-72 course were increased to 7,392 yards as of April 2024.
