Where is The Open 2023? Location, Field List and More

Last Modified Jul 12, 2023 05:22 GMT

The world is gearing up for the Open 2023 from July 16 to July 23, 2023, in Royal Liverpool in Hoylake, England.

12 months ago, Cameron Smith won the Claret Jug at St Andrews, in Scotland, with a score of -20 over four rounds! And this year, he will be back to defend this title. If he manages to win, he will be the first golfer to win and defend the title back-to-back after Padraig Harrington in 2007 & 2008.

Paddy Power is offering odds of 16/1 on Smith's victory. However, the favourite in the betting market is Rory McIlroy, the 2014 Open winner and the only time he has won this event. McIlroy can be backed at 15/2 with the best UK bookmakers. Scottie Scheffler, the current world number one, is the next favourite at 9/1, followed by world number two Jon Rahm at the same odds. Rahm aims to add the Opens to his collection of golfing majors this season.

Open 2023 Course details

Hoylake, an exceptional golf course in England, recently underwent renovations that introduced a new par 3 17th hole. This 136-yard hole promises to add excitement to the tournament, as does the long par 5 finishing hole. The third hole, known for its challenging stretch of internal out-of-bounds, is considered one of the toughest on The Open rotation. The original course was designed by Robert Chambers and George Morris, the younger brother of Old Tom Morris, in 1869. Since then, it has hosted 12 Open Championships. Notable past winners at Royal Liverpool include Rory McIlroy in 2014, Tiger Woods in 2006, and golf legends Walter Hagen and Bobby Jones. The course will play as a par 72 this year, stretching over 7,349 yards in length. Located on the shores of the River Dee, it will provide a genuine links-style test for the players.
