TGL, the newly formed golf league by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's TMRW Sports, is expected to debut on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the SoFi Center. The innovative golf league has just signed with Genesis, its first founding partner, which is wonderful news for its organizers.

Genesis has a long-standing history with the sport, having committed to sponsoring several of the PGA Tour and DP World Tour's events, such as the Genesis Invitational, Genesis Scottish Open, Presidents Cup, and the Genesis Championship.

Here's what Mike McCarley, the CEO and Founder of TMRW Sports and TGL, had to say about the partnership:

"TGL presented by SoFi is honored to welcome Genesis as the league’s first Founding Partner. The Genesis brand aligns perfectly with TGL through their commitment to designing exceptional and innovative products, and their demonstrated commitment to golf all around the world," he said.

All you need to know about the new TGL's format

The TGL golf league, which will make its debut on January 7, 2025, at the SoFi Center, will feature the PGA Tour's best players. The inaugural season will feature six teams of four players each. However, only three will be competing in the match-play style format.

Each team will play five matches in the league, with points awarded. TGL is based on evolving virtual golf. Using a simulator, all players will hit into the "Screen Zone," a 64-foot wide screen, from a distance of 35 yards.

The innovation in the SoFi Center has impressed fans worldwide. The hitting area in the Screen Zone will comprise real grass, sand, and rough. All short game shots that are 50 yards or less to the pin will be played on the 'Green Zone'. The 97-yard area can rotate, create different conditions and slopes, and alter the topography and hitting angles for the players.

A referee will be present, along with mandatory time outs to aid players in recovery and increased stakes. All players will be miked up to create a never before experience for viewers.

All players will be given 40 seconds to hit their shot on the 'Shot Clock'. If a player goes over the time limit, the team will receive a one-stroke penalty. The TGL league will compete once a week for a period of two hours.

There are two sessions in the league: Singles and Triples. A triples format will be used for the first nine holes, with three players each, and a singles format will be used for holes 10 through 15. Players will engage in a three-on-three alternate shot style competition in the triples format.

With one point up for grabs at each hole, the session will go into overtime in the case of a tie. After all events have been concluded, the top four teams will head into a single elimination playoff, with the top two teams battling it out in a best-of-three format Championship.
