Milton Pouha Finau was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on September 14, 1989. In 2006, he won the Utah State Amateur Championship, defeating future PGA Tour player Daniel Summerhays in the 36-hole final.

Finau began his career at the age of 17. He started on small tours, including the National Pro Tour, the NGA Hooters Tour, and the Utah Gateway Tour. He became a part of the PGA Tour in 2013 and achieved his first victory in 2016 at the Puerto Rico Open. He has since attained five PGA Tour triumphs, three of which occurred in 2022. Although he did not win any major championships, he performed exceedingly well in them.

In July 2022, Finau won back-to-back PGA Tour victories, clinching the 3M Open and the Rocket Mortgage Classic. These were his third and fourth PGA Tour wins. Later in the year, he qualified for the United States team in the 2022 Presidents Cup, winning three matches and losing one. Finau's excellent form continued as he won the Cadence Bank Houston Open in November 2022, marking his third PGA Tour victory of the year. In April 2023, he secured his sixth PGA Tour title by winning the Mexico Open.

Tony Finau was born and raised in the United States. He is an American national of mixed ethnicity with Tongan and Samoan ancestors. Tony grew up with six siblings in Salt Lake City, including a younger brother named Gipper Finau. Despite coming from a non-golfing family, Finau took an unlikely path to professional golf, starting his journey in his hometown.

Finau had never seen a golf tournament, but Tiger Woods' confidence and determination inspired him. His father, Kelepi Finau, welcomed the idea even though he did not understand how to play the sport nor had the financial means to hire a coach. Regardless, he bought a book by Jack Nicklaus, "Golf My Way" and became a coach for Tony Finau and his younger brother, Gipper.

Tony Finau and his brother were taught the principles of golf by their father while sailing on uncharted waters, while their schooling at West High School in Salt Lake City opened the door to participation in state golf competitions.

After graduating high school, Finau was offered scholarships to play collegiate golf at Stanford and BYU, while Weber State and Utah State wanted him to play basketball.

He is married to Alayna Galea’i-Finau, and they have four children together Jraice, Leilene Aiaga, Tony, and Sage.

Finau founded the Tony Finau Foundation, which works to empower teenagers and their families in the community. He is a follower of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His wife, Alayna Finau, and he have five children. Finau participates in the Netflix sports documentary series Full Swing, which debuts on February 15, 2023.

Tony Finau's hobbies include fire knife dancing, playing guitar, and watching movies.
