Established in 1929, the PGA Tour has thrived under the notice of its loyal fanbase for almost a century now. The meticulous selection process whilst enlisting professional golfers into the series plays a prominent role in the PGA Tour's everlasting success.
The 2023 season of the series kicked off with the Tournament of Champions on January 5, 2023, followed by 10 other tournaments, the latest of which being the The Players Championships, concludes today.
Top 10 golfers on the PGA Tour in 2023
1) Jon Rahm
Rahm scooted over to the No. 2 position in the Official World Golf Rankings after Scottie Scheffler's win at The Player's Championship on March 12, 2023. With 10 PGA Tour wins so far and having earned over $44 million thus far in his career, the former U.S. Open champion has climbed his way up to the 15th position on the tour's money list.
2) Scottie Scheffler
Scheffler snagged the reigning spot yet again after his win at The Players Championship last week. He won a whopping $4.5 million for the same, making this his sixth PGA Tour title.
3) Rory McIlroy
McIlroy's performances have been strong throughout his career in the series. In the 2023 season, he bagged the Rolex Series title at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in January. He also went on to tie at the 29th position at the Genesis Invitational the following month and tied for second place at the Arnold Palmer Invitational earlier this month. Having won four major championships and multiple other tournaments, he's considered one of the best golfers of his generation.
4) Patrick Cantlay
The eight-time PGA Tour winner's consistent performances and solid ball-striking have made him a formidable contender on the tour. He is currently the fourth best golfer in the world as per the Official World Golf Rankings and has earned multiple victories throughout his career.
5) Max Homa
Max Homa has had a solid performance on the PGA Tour thus far in its 2023 season. He has competed in six events on the series with his best finishes being at the Farmers Insurance Open in January 2023, where he finished first, and the Genesis Invitational, where he came second.
6) Xander Schauffele
The talented pro has played 172 events on the tour, making a cut in 139 of them. Schauffele is currently the 7th best golfer in the world. He's played in seven tournaments on the tour so far in this year's season, with his best finish being at The American Express Championship, where he tied for third place with Chris Kirk.
7) Will Zalatoris
Zalatoris has shown consistent promise in his play and has quickly become one of the top young players to watch on the PGA Tour. Hardly three years after joining the series, he's managed to earn a spot amongst the top 10 golfers in the world.
8) Viktor Hovland
The rising pro golfer has played in six events on the PGA Tour this year and portrayed his adroit game in the same. Hovland raked in his first PGA Tour victory at the Mayakoba Golf Classic in December 2020 and has continued on to play consistently well since then.
9) Justin Thomas
The PGA Tour pro is all set to get his ball swinging at the Valspar Championship tomorrow at the Copperhead Course. This marks his 228th event on the tour. Known for his aggressive style of play and his ability to hit the ball long distances, Thomas has set numerous records on the PGA Tour, including shooting a 59 in a single round and winning the FedEx Cup in 2017. He's considered to be one of the top golfers in the world and has managed to make a successful career for himself at a young age.
10) Collin Morikawa
Morikawa has made a name for himself in the field of golf since turning pro in 2019. He is the first player since 1923 to win two Major championships in the first attempt, making him a prized addition to the tour. We look forward to seeing his young career grow further.
