The 2025 golf season is just beginning, but it can already be said that it will be full of great emotions. Several events scheduled for the year stand out for the great anticipation they generate among fans.
As with every golf season, the major championship will be among the highlights of the year for both men and women. However, there will be other events that no one in the golf world will want to miss.
Top 5 must-see events of the 2025 golf season
The 2025 golf season has already begun on the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour, while the women's tours will begin in a few days. The season runs through November.
Here are five not-to-be-missed events:
#1 Ryder Cup
The Ryder Cup is one of the most important events in the world of golf and is the highlight of the season every two years. In 2025, the event will be held on American soil, at Bethpage Black in New York.
As usual, the Ryder Cup will be surrounded by numerous storylines, such as the possible presence of LIV Golf players on both teams and payments to American players. The event is scheduled for September 26-28.
#2 The Masters Tournament
Another highlight of every golf season is The Masters Tournament, and 2025 will be no different. The event at the super-exclusive Augusta National Golf Club will be held from April 10-13, with world number one Scottie Scheffler as the defending champion.
Scheffler is looking to become only the fourth player to successfully defend his Masters title and the first since Tiger Woods in 2002. The others were Sir Nick Faldo (1990) and Jack Nicklaus (1966).
#3 US Women's Open
The US Women's Open will be visiting Erin Hills for the first time and will be played from May 29th to June 3rd. This is the same venue that saw Brooks Koepka win the first of his two US Open titles to date.
The second major championship of the women's golf season will have among its main storylines to see if Nelly Korda can put the bad moment of the previous season behind her. The world number one missed the cut in the 2024 edition after scoring 80 in the first round.
The U.S. Women's Open has been a difficult event in the career of Korda, who has missed three cuts in her last five appearances. Korda has just two top-10 finishes in 10 appearances.
#4 The Open Championship
One of the most prestigious tournaments in the world, The Open Championship, the fourth major of the men's season, returns from July 17-20. This time it will be at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.
The most obvious storylines here will be to see what Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy and Irishman Shane Lowry can do. McIlroy has never been able to win a top event in his home country, while Lowry has already won the 2019 Open at Royal Portrush.
#5 AIG Women's Open
Like its men's counterpart, the AIG Women's Open is one of the most prestigious tournaments of the women's season. In 2025, the event will be held at Royal Porthcawl in Wales from July 31 to August 3.
LPGA Hall of Famer Dame Lydia Ko won the 2024 edition. Ko will be looking to become the fourth player to successfully defend her title and the first since Yani Tseng in 2011. Sherri Steinhauer did it in 1999 and Debbie Massey in 1981.
