The 2024 Solheim Cup is nearly here. Rosters are set and the golfers are ready to compete in this weekend's international competition.
Team Europe kept the trophy last year after a tie, so the Americans are trying to regain their momentum. Their roster is comprised of 12 stars, but so is Europe's. It should be an intense competition and, after last year's tie, a close one.
Here are the five golfers most important to the outcome this year.
Players to watch at the 2024 Solheim Cup
5) Celine Boutier
Celine Boutier won four times last year. Despite threatening many times, she went without a victory in 2024. Still, she's 5-4-1 in Solheim Cup play and has the talent to be a major difference-maker in this tournament.
Boutier will be one of the biggest factors for the Europeans this weekend and will look to earn a win for the first time this calendar year.
4) Lexi Thompson
Barring a change of mind, this is Lexi Thompson's final Solheim Cup. The star American golfer has decided to retire after this season, so unless she reverses that decision, she will not play when the Solheim Cup comes back two years from now. Thus, she is one of the most interesting players this weekend.
3) Carlota Ciganda
Carlota Ciganda rose to the challenge and was Team Europe's best player last year. She went 4-0 in her play, including beating Nelly Korda 2-1 in Sunday singles. That proved to be huge for the Europeans to keep the trophy, and in her seventh Solheim Cup, all eyes will be on her to see if she can duplicate her stunning performance from 2023.
2) Charley Hull
The European team's performance and chances of winning likely begin and end with Charley Hull. One of the world's top-ranked golfers, Hull has been one of their most prolific scorers in this tournament (seventh all-time in points). If the Europeans keep their recent success up, they'll need the English golfer in top form.
1) Nelly Korda
Nelly Korda is the number one golfer so all eyes will be on her. While all 24 golfers are quite talented, Korda has had an impressive season. She won six starts and tied for second in the last, the AIG Women's Open Championship. She's in good form and is the most popular woman golfer which won't change this weekend.
