Tseng aces it on and off the course

Next week, the golfing world will be squarely focused on Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods as they play in a dream Nike pairing for the first two rounds of the US Open, with Masters champion Adam Scott also along for the ride.

But this week, the women play their second major of the year, the rain-delayed LPGA Championship, and the marquee group was the tournament’s last three winners: China’s Feng Shanshan, Taiwan’s Yani Tseng and American Christie Kerr.

Standing on the tee at the 140-yard 15th hole, Tseng pulled out an eight iron and absolutely nailed it. It pitched a couple of feet past the hole and spun back into the cup.

Most golfers can die happy if they hit one hole-in-one in their entire career; the 24-year-old Tseng now has FIVE, though this was her first one as a pro. It took her under par for the round and she got as far as -2, but finished at even, five shots behind leader Chella Choi from South Korea.

Tseng also provided some highlights afterwards, talking about a recent tonsillitis infection that had spread to her gums, saying for the past few days she’s been like an old person unable to chew much, before mimicking how her grandmother eats.

Meanwhile, defending champion Feng started her round brightly with birdies at her first two holes, but faded and finished two over par.
