Every year, the LPGA Tour hosts the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, a women's professional golf competition, in Rogers, Arkansas, which is located north of Fayetteville. The event was first held in 2007; however, it was then termed an unofficial event due to the weather. Further, the then-event was reduced to 18 holes, which was won by Stacy Lewis, an amateur; thus, she didn't win any prize money, while the purse was reduced by 50%.
In 2008, the title sponsor was Procter & Gamble (P&G), and the largest public company in the world, Walmart, with its headquarters in nearby Bentonville, took over the role of presenting sponsor in 2010. In 2011, P&G served as the presenting sponsor, and Walmart took over as the main sponsor.
