WATCH: Rory McIlroy lands unbelievable eagle to become T1 at the 2024 BMW PGA Championship

Rory McIlroy returned to the DP World Tour this week following a fairly consistent season on the PGA Tour this year. The Irishman took on the iconic Wentworth Club in Surrey, England, intending to capture the BMW PGA Championship title.

The Olympian carded in a front nine score of one under par 34 comprising two birdies and one bogey. On the back nine, he went on to birdie the 12th and 14th holes before pulling an absolute miracle on the par five 17th hole.

Ranked as the 15th toughest hole on the course, McIlroy placed his 301-yard drive on the right edge of the fairway, which set him up perfectly for the dog leg left hole. With 266 yards to the pin, the 17-time DP World Tour winner managed to get onto the green with a wood.

The World No. 3 golfer drained an incredibly challenging putt over 46 feet long to card in an eagle. This moved Rory McIlroy up the leaderboard and saw him in a three-way tie for first place with Billy Horschel and Thriston Lawrence.

The trio proceeded to battle it out in a sudden death playoff. The first playoff hole was the par-five 18th hole. McIlroy and Horschel carded in birdies while Lawrence conceded with a bogey.
