Scottie Scheffler is aiming for his third Major championship title this week at the Royal Troon in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The 12 time PGA Tour winner is currently tied for seventh place at the Open Championship, sitting with two under par with nine holes still to play in final round.
The American was well within contention leading up to the eighth hole. However, sitting tied for fifth place with a score of four under par, Scheffler encountered a disastrous situation on the Royal Troon's par-four ninth hole.
On the 430 yard hole, Scheffler's 237-yard tee shot landed in the light rough on the left side of the hole. With 193 yards to the pin, his approach shot failed to hit a regulation. Facing a 15 yard chip from the front of the green, Scheffler managed to get it to within two feet, eight inches of the hole. However, the world number one missed the putt for par.
Visibly frustrated after missing the putt for par, he quickly putted the two-footer without his usual pre-shot routine and missed again. The double bogey after three-putting the hole dropped him to seventh place on the leaderboard. He now trails Thriston Lawrence by five strokes as the South African sits at seven under par.
