Scottie Scheffler was spotted on January 19 for the first time since sustaining an injury during the Christmas holidays. NUCLR Golf took to their X (formerly known as Twitter) platform to share the sighting following a hand surgery.
The World No. 1 golfer was spotted hitting the gym. NUCLR Golf reposted an Instagram story shared by Chirosport TV, a sports physical therapy and rehabilitation center. Scheffler was seen performing overhead lunges with a resistance band to improve his stability.
The original video had an encouraging and motivational caption that read (via X @NUCLRGolf):
"Trust the process. Celebrate the progress!"
Here's a look into the 2024 Player of the Year's sighting for the first time since December 2024 (via X @NUCLRGolf):
The footage highlights the PGA Tour superstar's relentless dedication to recovering from his injury and returning to peak performance. He can also be seen wearing a wrist brace on his right hand. While the golf world has been eagerly awaiting Scheffler's next start, his return to fitness and strength training signals optimism for his return soon.
The PGA Tour had announced Scheffler's withdrawal from the season-opening The Sentry along with a statement regarding the injury. The 2024 Tour Championship's manager, Blake Smith, noted (via PGA Tour):
"On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass. Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery. He has been told that he should be back to 100% in three to four weeks."
A week ago, Scheffler withdrew from this week's ongoing American Express in California to give his hand more time to heal. There has been no announcement regarding the 28-year-old's next tournament start while he is on the recovery track.
Scottie Scheffler wins the 2024 GWAA award
Last week, Scottie Scheffler was named the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA) 2024 Male Player of the Year. Having bagged 9 titles on the PGA Tour last year, the 2024 FedEx Cup champion was deserving of the honor.
Grateful to have received the prestigious title, Scheffler said (via PGA Tour):
"I am extremely honored to be named the GWAA Player of the Year Award for the second time. 2024 was a year I will never forget. From winning my second PLAYERS and Masters, to winning Olympic gold, the FedExCup, to the birth of my son.”
Nelly Korda was also a recipient of the Golf Writers Association of America award. Having won seven tournaments on the LPGA Tour last year, and with five of them being consecutive wins, the Rolex World No. 1 golfer is the GWAA 2024 Female Player of the Year. Ernie Els received the 2024 GWAA Senior Player of the Year award.
