Justin Rose shares second place with Daniel Brown through the penultimate round of the 2024 Open Championship. With just two strokes behind solo leader, Shane Lowry, Rose seeks to end his eleven-year Major victory drought this week in Scotland.
Following England's dissapointing loss at the Euros last week, Rose is determined to uphold his nation's name in the game of golf. Set to become the first Englishman to win The Open Championship in more than 30 years, here's what the PGA Tour star had to say with a chuckle to the media:
"We've had enough problems with football. I can't bring golf into it. That would be nice. When I won the US Open, it was like, "oh, first since Tony Jacklin." So those are nice moments when it comes together and you can share the story of what it means. But you're never thinking of it and we're pretty selfish from that point of view, like we want it for us. Obviously, its great to share it with everybody that its meaningful to. "
Winning an Open Championship would mean more to Justin Rose than any other Major tournament. Having finished in fourth place at the 1998 edition of the tournament as an amateur during his Major debut, the event holds a special place in Rose's heart. The Englishman has beat his low amateur score only once in his 20 appearances at The Open Championship. His best ever finish in the event was in 2018 where he tied for second place.
