Tiger Woods announced on Friday, February 10, that he will make a return to the PGA Tour with next week's Genesis Invitational. This will be the first time Woods will feature in a PGA Tour event outside the Majors.
It was in 2020 when Woods last played at the Riviera Country Club. The performance was not up to the mark and the 82 times winner on the Tour finished 68 in the tournament.
He started well with a promising Round 1 with 69 but in the next three days, he closed with 73-76-77, respectively, to conclude at 11-over 295. He entered the tournament with some good performances in previous events.
Woods finished in the Top 10 at the Farmers Insurance Open a few weeks ago and won the Zozo Championship earlier that year. Even in 2019, he concluded the tournament at T15.
It was a rare failure as prior to the 2020 Genesis Invitational, it was only the 2015 memorial when Woods finished last among the players who missed the cut.
The 15 times Majors winner has never won a Genesis Invitational in his career. His best results came in 1998 and 1999 when he had runner-up and joint runner-up finishes, respectively. At the time, the tournament was known as the Genesis Open.

There is some good news for golf fans and Tiger Woods fans as the golfing legend has officially announced his return to the PGA Tour with next week's Genesis Invitational.
Woods shared the news on Twitter:
"I'm ready to play an ACTUAL PGA Tour event next week @thegenesisinv"
It was earlier speculated by TW Legion that Woods might play the Genesis Invitational. TW Legion is a Twitter account that is dedicated to tracking Woods' golf course schedule and activities.
The news was celebrated on Golf Twitter. Here are some of the reactions.
"Heck yeah you are!!"
"Let's gooooooo! We'll be monitoring your progress throughout the week!!! Welcome back!"
"NOW THAT'S A HYPE TWEET!!! LFG!!! WELCOME BACK GOAT!!"
"This is what I’ve been longing to hear Tiger… now it’s time to watch golf again👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👌🏾👌🏾"
Tiger Woods was last seen on the golf course during the Capital One exhibition "The Match" where he was paired alongside Rory McIlroy against Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas. The 47-year-old golfer also played at the PNC Championship alongside his son Charlie Woods. He hasn't played an official tournament since the 150th Open Championship.
The last time Tiger Woods won a tournament was at the Zozo Championship in 2020. His last major win was at the Masters in 2019, which reignited his hopes of crossing Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 major wins.
The senior golfer had a terrible car accident in 2021 that kept him off the golf scene for over a year. He is still struggling with plantar fasciitis in his right foot as a result of the injuries he received from the accident. Fans will be hoping Woods turns back the clock this year while others will just be happy to see him play once again and hit some balls.
