Fred Couples’s Driver
Couples have been using the TaylorMade Stealth Plus driver, which has low spin with mid-launch and forgiveness. He uses a Tensei AV Pro Blue 75X shaft with a loft adjusted at 9.5 degrees.
Since Stealth Plus’ hosel can be adjusted to strengthen or weaken the loft and the weight track can be moved to alter the center of gravity, it is well-suited for people with lower handicaps.
Fred Couples’s Fairways
Couples uses a Callaway FT I Squareway 3-wood and a Ping G425 Max 5-wood as his fairways, with Harrison Mugon Prototype 75X and Alta CB 65 Slate shafts, respectively. The FT I Squareway's loft is adjusted at 15 degrees, and though relatively old, Couples customized it as per his needs, offering accuracy, launch, and distance.
The Ping G425 Max is a 2024 addition; it is specifically designed to produce a higher launch and improved consistency. It has good spin control and several stock shaft variations. Higher swing speed users might, however, discover that they like something with a lower launch.
Fred Couples’s Hybrid
The TaylorMade Stealth Rescue is Couples' preferred hybrid golf club. It provides the needed launch and distance with a mid-volume sound, but it doesn't vibrate uncomfortably through the handle and feels excellent.
The carbon sole, shaft, and crown make this a reliable hybrid with a high trajectory. However, it has a draw bias and isn't really adjustable, which could be a deal breaker for some. It also doesn't give any other stock shaft alternatives and is rather pricey.
Fred Couples’s Iron
Couples use Bridgestone's J15 Dual Pocket Cavity Iron, which is known for its stylish design with good distance and forgiveness. Critics claim that it is fantastic for golfers trying to increase their distance.
However, they can be noisy, particularly if you're carrying more than one of them and they clank around in your luggage. Also, low handicappers probably won't like its broader sole.
Fred Couples’s Wedges
Couples uses the Titleist Vokey SM7 and the TaylorMade ATV as his two wedges. The latter’s concave shape and sharp edges make it different from a standard wedge, making it more versatile, which allows it to be used from other angles. It's specialty is distance control due to its heavy club head, which also manages spin and bounce.
The Titleist Vokey SM7 has a more classic wedge design, which is likely why Couples pairs it with the TaylorMade ATV. The Vokey SM7 has an excellent spin and feel and holding it is quite comfortable because there is no vibration or rattling. However, high handicappers might not like it.
Fred Couples’s Putter
The Bettinardi SS28 is Fred Couples' go-to putter because it's comfortable and perfect for people who prefer a conventional blade look but still have the flexibility of a mallet.
The milled steel face provides feedback and forgiveness, resulting in a soft feel and soothing sound. It's ideal for people who want their strokes to be more stable. Those seeking greater forgiveness, however, may pick a mallet putter head.
Fred Couples’s Golf Ball
Couples prefer the Bridgestone Tour B RXS golf ball because the yellow balls can be seen more easily. These balls, which are made of softer material and have a slower swing speed, are regarded as non-tour urethane. They also have a low spin and fly rather high; however, they do occasionally produce duds; generally, they are predictable and dependable.
