PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan has a reported handicap of six as of 2023. He spoke about his handicap last year. After announcing the merger with PIF, Monahan went on medical leave for almost a month.
When he returned to his duties, he opened up about his game, stating that he did not play during the medical leave and that led to an increase in his handicap. As per Golf Digest, his handicap was four. But when Monahan returned to his duties in July 2023, he stated that his handicap had increased to six. He said (via Golf Digest):
“I’ve blown out to a six handicap."
Monahan was active in sports during his college days. He played hockey and golf up to Division III while studying at Trinity College. The Massachusetts native has been active in the golf industry for a long time now.
Monahan is the fourth commissioner of the PGA Tour. He took on the role in January 2017. Prior to that, Monahan served as the Executive Director of The Players Championship and then served as the Senior Vice President of Business Development for the PGA Tour.
Before joining as the Commissioner, he was the PGA Tour's Chief Operating Officer, and after the Tour's commissioner Tim Finchem announced his retirement in 2016, Jay Monahan took over the duties.
Jay Monahan joins the action at the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship
Jay Monahan joined PGA Tour pro Billy Horschel to tee it up at the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. The tournament started this week with amateurs joining the professionals at the DP World Tour event.
Horschel and Monahan began their game in Scotland and shot an 8-under 64 in the opening round of the event. The duo fired 8 birdies, 2 bogeys, and an eagle in the first round.
Ahead of the start of the tournament, Horschel opened up about how he ended up teaming up with Monahan at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He said during a press conference on October 2 (via ASAP Sports):
"We were at the Zurich Classic, and I said, 'Hey, I'm going to play Dunhill again this year, I know your schedule can be a little bit chaotic at times with a lot of stuff going on in the game of golf', but asked if he was interested in being my partner this year, and he said yeah, I would love to."
"I asked him two more times over the next couple months to make sure he was - really wanted to do it which I knew he did but like I said, schedule can dictate things. He was all for it and I was excited that Jay accepted my invitation," he added.
The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is a four-day event and will conclude with the finale on Sunday, October 6.
