Tiger Woods once addressed speculation about his alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs during his career. The American golfer has cemented his legacy as one of the most successful players in golf history. With 15 Major titles to his name, he ranks second in the game's history, trailing only Jack Nicklaus, who has 18.
Despite being in his late 40s, Woods continues to play in official tournaments. However, due to injuries and multiple surgeries over the years, he has struggled with his game lately.
Over the years, Woods has faced accusations of using PEDs. He opened up about these speculations during an interview with JayFlemma.com in 2010 when asked about his reaction to people accusing him of using PEDs during his career.
"Well, I’ve never taken it. I’ve never taken performance enhancing drugs, never taken HGH, never taken any of that stuff. But everyone is entitled to their opinion."
Since turning professional in 1996, Tiger Woods has won over 100 tournaments. He has secured 82 PGA Tour victories, tying for the most wins in the circuit's history, and claimed 43 wins on the European Tour, the third-highest of all time.
When a former PGA Tour Pro accused Tiger Woods of taking PEDs
Although Tiger Woods has denied allegations of using PEDs in 2010, the topic continues to resurface in headlines. In April 2024, former PGA Tour player Mark Lye allegedly accused the five-time Masters winner of using performance-enhancing drugs.
During an interview on Don't @Me With Dan Dakich aired on April 15, Lye reportedly accused Woods of taking PEDs. The host of the show asked Lye:
"It was felt by many around golf – people that really know – that Tiger Woods has used ‘roids in the past or may have used ‘roids in the past?"
Lye replied:
"Yes, that is. It is except for the people in Tiger’s corner. ‘You better shut up about it.’ Nobody ever gone out like that. Nobody’s ever said that like I’m saying it right now. There’s just no doubt. And I would say about 80 or 90% of the people out there know something ain’t right."
Moreover, in 2023, in an interview with Andrew Schulz's podcast FLAGRANT, UFC's Chael Sonnen claimed that Tiger Woods and NBA star LeBron James used PEDs in their careers. He said:
"There is only one golfer, there is only one golfer that follows the big three, and the big three are EPO [erythropoietin], growth hormone, and testosterone. That's the Lance Armstrong diet. That's one golfer, and it's Tiger Woods." (0.25)
Woods enjoyed remarkable success during his career. However, in recent years, injuries have hampered his performance. In 2024, Woods participated in five tournaments but missed the cut in three and withdrew from another. His only successful outing was at the Masters, where he made the cut but finished 60th.
