Where did Rory McIlroy finish after round 1 of the 2024 Paris Olympics?

Rory McIlroy is making his second start at the Olympic Games this week. Following a tied fourth-place finish at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the Irishman is eager to finish at the top of the podium at the Le Golf National course, located on the outskirts of Paris.

Following an opening round score of three under par 68, the two-time Olympian is tied for 15th place and is in contention. McIlroy and seven other players are five strokes behind solo leader, Hideki Matsuyama.

After a disappointing loss at the 2024 US Open to LIV Golf star, Bryson DeChambeau, the PGA Tour star needs a win to lift his spirits. McIlroy hoped to end his decade-long streak without a Major championship victory this year. Unfortunately, the plan has been pushed to 2025 after a missed cut at the Open Championship. However, the 2024 Paris Olympics is off to a great start for the 35-year-old.

Having carded in five birdies and one eagle today, the four-time Major championship winner had the potential to do better. Despite the result, McIlroy is filled with gratitude and honor.

" Unbelievable. It was surprisisng. With so many events going on spread all across the city, for people to venture out here and watch us play, it was a really cool atmosphere to play in. "

The two-time PGA Championship winner will tee up the second round of the Olympics at 12:06 pm local time. He will play with his fellow PGA Tour competitors, USA's Scottie Scheffler and Sweden's Ludvig Aberg.
