The Ryder Cup is still nine months away, but fans are already getting excited. The biennial event will be played at Bethpage Black in New York from September 26-28, 2025.
Keegan Bradley, captain of the U.S. team, announced a few weeks ago in conjunction with the PGA of America how the players will be selected to play in the Ryder Cup. Bradley's system is not very different from the one that worked in the previous edition.
These are the selection criteria to integrate the American team into the Ryder Cup 2025 (via the official website of the event):
2024 Major Championships
- 1 Point per $1,000 earned for all players who made the cut at The Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and The Open.
2024 The PLAYERS
- 1 Point per $1,000 earned for all players who made the cut at THE PLAYERS.
2025 Regular PGA TOUR events
- 1 point per $1,000 earned for all players who make the cut in events beginning January 1, 2025, through the conclusion of the BMW Championship, August 17, 2025 (second FedEx Cup Playoff event).
- 2025 Opposite Field PGA TOUR events will NOT receive points.
2025 Major Championships
- 1.5 Points per $1,000 earned for all players who make the cut at The Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open and The Open.
All American players will be eligible to earn points toward the 2025 BMW Championship. The top 6 players on the ranking will qualify directly for the U.S. team, while Captain Keegan Bradley will freely pick the other six members. The team will be announced following the 2025 TOUR Championship.
Criteria for exclusion
According to the event's official website, the U.S. team is anticipating that there may be exceptions, as the ranking system states the following:
"Points ranking does not guarantee qualification for the Ryder Cup. Players must separately meet all eligibility requirements."
The information does not clarify what other requirements players must meet. However, it does not appear to affect whether or not they play on the PGA Tour, as LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau is included in the current (January 2025) rankings.
