The Jeopardy Masters tournament is a prominent American quiz show known for its unusual array of participants and directors' playing strategies. Merv Griffin invented the game show “Jeopardy Masters”. Russell Norman and Lucinda Owens Margolis directed the show. Ken Jennings hosted the show, while Johnny Gilbert narrated it.

The tournament features the previous six Jeopardy champions competing for ten hours, with two games each overall making it for twenty games. The tournament consists of 10 episodes overall. Each episode lasts for an hour.

Jeopardy Masters has a big list of composers because the game was quite popular at the time. The show consists of ten episodes every season, with each episode lasting 42 minutes. The Jeopardy Masters Tournament premiered on television on May 8, 2023.

Jeopardy Masters Tournament Winner

James Holzhauer is the first-ever Jeopardy Masters winner. The self-proclaimed "game show villain" won the three-week tournament, after facing Mattea Roach and Matt Amodio in a two-game final. While Holzhauer led after the first game, Roach dominated the second. However, after adding the scores from both games, Holzhauer won with a total of 43,795 points, claiming the $500,000 top prize and the Trebek Trophy. Roach finished second with 41,685 points and won $250,000, while Amodio ranked third with 15,200 points and received $150,000.

According to Holzhauer, Jeopardy Masters is as difficult as the previous elite events he has competed in, including the 2019 Tournament of Champions and the Greatest of All Time in 2020. He won 32 straight games and holds the top ten slots on the list of best single-game earnings with a record of $131,127 in 2019.

Holzhauer, Roach, and Amodio competed in two games during finals to determine who would win ABC's inaugural "Jeopardy Masters tournament." As early-round scores were canceled out, the game became genuinely open to everybody.

Holzhauer dominated the first finals match, scoring 34,314 points. Amodio had 12,000 points, whereas Roach had 24,800. Holzhauer had 9,481 points in Game 2, and a total score of 43,795, emerging as the winner.

How long is the Jeopardy Masters Tournament?

The Jeopardy Masters Tournament is a ten-hour-long episode game, featuring six previous Jeopardy winners. They competed with each other in a "Champions League-style" format with ten hour-long episodes of two games each, for a total of twenty games. Unlike regular Jeopardy, which is scored in dollars, all of the games in this tournament are scored in points.

The quarterfinals are made up of seven round-robin matches of two games each; in each round, three participants face off in the first game, followed by the remaining three in the second. The winner of each game earns three match points, the runner-up receives one, and the third player receives none. Except for the first game, the second game of each round pits the previous round's winners against another randomly picked competitor who has not previously faced both winners.

After seven rounds, the match points are collected; the top four participants progress to the semifinals, while the remaining two are eliminated. The last four participants compete in a round-robin format over four games, with each player sitting out one. Each player's total number of match points is reset to zero, and, like in the quarterfinals, the winner of each game earns three match points, the second place receives one, and the last place receives zero. The three highest-ranked players go to the finals, and the lowest-ranked player is eliminated.

The three remaining players compete in a two-game battle. The player with the highest combined score from the two games is named the champion. Furthermore, all three participants will be automatically eligible for next year's event.
