Rory McIlroy is one of the most accomplished golfers of modern times. He has won 23 titles on the PGA Tour, including four Majors. One person accompanying him in all four major victories was his former caddie, J.P. Fitzgerald. However, the ace golfer split with his nine-year-long caddie in 2017 two days after finishing in the T-4 at the British Open at Royal Birkdale.
As per McIlroy, he did not split with JP Fitzgerald due to a conflict. He said it was more due to him than Fitzgerald. The 33-year-old admitted that he would occasionally vent his frustrations and be harsh on his caddie following a poor showing.
“It was partly to do with him and mostly to do with me," said McIlroy. "I wasn’t playing the best and was frustrated at myself and taking it out on him. And whether that was [related] to a club I’d hit or wanted to hit or … but it was not good.”
Out of 36 professional wins, Fitzgerald was with him in 26 of those. All four of his majors came when Fitzgerald was on the bag for him. Many believed it was due to Fitzgerald being by his side that McIlroy became a better player.
