Xander Schauffele's Caddie
Xander Schauffele's caddie is Austin Kaiser as of April 2025.
Schauffele and Kaiser have been friends for more than ten years. Kaiser has only served as a caddie for the past six years but was a respectable golfer for the San Diego State Aztecs, the same collegiate team on which they both competed. Austin made the cut in 12 of 13 tournaments during his junior year, finished fourth on the team, and had four top-20 finishes. He also participated in his first game in 2015 and assisted Schauffele in obtaining his PGA Tour card.
However, Kaiser has had a different dream since he was a child. He had no interest in playing golf or working as a caddie. Kaiser always dreamed of becoming a police officer after graduating from college. He even enrolled in the police academy and had just about finished all of the required schooling when Xander called to say:
“Hey, I need a caddie, and I think you would be great. We’re buds, and you know my game more than almost anybody.”
So, Austin decided to give it a shot.
Schauffele told Sky Sports following his victory at Royal Troon in the 2024 Open Championship:
“I was telling Austin, my caddie, on the 18th hole that I felt pretty calm coming down the stretch, and he said he was about to puke on the 18th! I just tell myself to hit it down there like I have all day and really just kept moving along.”
After entering the last section of the fairway in front of the clubhouse, Schauffele realized that his caddie wasn't standing next to him. To share the occasion with Kaiser, he waited for him to catch up. He said (via Golf Monthly):
"I mean, Austin, he's one of my best friends, but it's a team thing."
