Xander Schauffele will soon embark on his quest to defend the gold medal he won at the Tokyo Olympics. The 30-year-old will tee off at Le Golf National, on the outskirts of Paris, from August 1 to 4.
Before the first tee-off of the 2024 Paris Olympics, the two-time Major champion and his wife, Maya Schauffele, took some time to explore the city.
Moreover, Maya and her two close friends, Roxana Michelle and Shannon, sought refuge from the Parisian heat with a refreshing swim. Maya shared a heartwarming video featuring her friends with her 5,395 followers on Instagram. In the video that was originally posted by Michelle, the trio can be seen playing in the swimming pool and sharing some laughs. Here's what Maya wrote while reposting the video:
" Friends that bring out your inner child.❤️ "
Xander Schauffele will kick off his 2024 Paris Olympics campaign alongside PGA Tour stars Viktor Hovland and Spain's Jon Rahm at 11:55 AM local time. The trio will reunite for the second round, teeing off at 9:55 AM.
Xander Schauffele not in favour of potential third event at the Olympics
The International Golf Federation has proposed a mixed-team event for the 2028 Olympics. However, Xander Schauffele is not in favour of the potential addition.
The mixed-team event will feature 16 teams comprised of players from the 60-person men's and women's individual fields, competing in an alternate shot and best ball format.
The 2024 Open Championship winner believes that the athletes would be overworked and that this would negatively impact their performance. According to CBS' Kyle Porter, here's what the Olympian had to say about the potential match-play event at the prestigious competition:
"I think having a match-play event would be kind of weird. So that's just my take on that. Then with the co-sex play. I'm a big advocate of don't knock on it until you try it. My only issue with it would be sort of the run of events; it being two weeks in a row.If you take it for what we have now, we are playing this tournament, we have one week off and then we have three weeks in a row for our Playoffs. It would be sticky to do two tournaments in a row and because of that, you may lose some guys."
Scauffele's concerns are sure to be shared by several other players, as the proposed event would be played right after the men's individual stroke play event and before the women's event.
