Xander Schauffele set the PGA Championship record with an opening 2024 PGA Championship round score of nine under 62. With that, Schaufflele also set Valhalla Golf Club's new course record.
Xander Schauffele took solo lead after a five under par 31 front nine score after teeing off the 10th hole at the Valhalla Golf Club. Schauffele carded in a birdie free round of 9 under 62 to mantain the lead. Tony Finau followed three strokes behind at six under through 15 holes.

The Olympic medalist took advantage of the soft conditions of Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky and matched the Major Championship's low round record that he previously set at the 2023 U.S. Open at Los Angles Country Club of 62 that he shares with Rickie Fowler and matched it at the first round of the PGA Championship.
Xander Schauffele also set the course record at Valhalla Golf Club. The record was perviously set by Jose Maria Olazabal during the 2000 PGA Championship. Olazabal shot a third round record setting score of 63 that now broken by Xander Schauffele 24 years later.
Only three players have matched Major Championship's lowest round record. Schauffele broke the club's all time score record by one stroke and tied the Major Championship's lowest score record of 62 which he also tied in 2023 at the U.S. Open in Los Angles Country Club.
