Xander Schauffele won his second major championship of the season and his career this past weekend as he was crowned The 2024 Open Championship winner at the Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland. He carded a -9 for the event and won by two strokes.
Schauffele is well known for big celebrations after victories, and recently, he posted an image on his Instagram commemorating his latest triumph. He shared a picture of him smoking a cigar, along with his father, while his caddie Austin Kaiser smoked a cigarette.
"Open victory cigar with the boys," Schauffele wrote.
Xander Schauffele has been seen smoking cigars after winning big titles, including the 2024 PGA Championship, the 2022 Presidents Cup, and the 2021 Ryder Cup. This time, after winning The 2024 Open Championship, the reigning Olympic champion enjoyed cigars with his caddie and father.
How has Xander Schauffele performed in 2024?
Xander Schauffele had no major championship victories before this year. However, his performance in 2024 has surprised everyone, as he has won two major titles.
He won the 2024 PGA Championship in May and recently The 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon. Schauffele finished T7 and solo 8th at the US Open and Masters, respectively. The 30-year-old achieved the incredible feat of finishing in the top 10 of every major this year, and also claimed two victories.
"It's a dream come true to win two majors in one year. It took me forever just to win one, and to have two now is something else," Schauffele said.
Winning The 2024 Open Championship was difficult as the Royal Troon Golf Club was a challenging course, and Schauffele said the experience of winning the PGA Championship earlier this year helped him.
"It was very difficult. I think winning the first one helped me a lot on the back nine. I had some feeling of calmness come through. It was very helpful on what has been one of the hardest back nines I've ever played in a tournament."
In 18 events played this season, Schauffele has two wins, two runner-ups and 12 top-10 finishes. He is yet to miss a cut this year, and his worst finish came at The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, where he finished T54th.
Schauffele has not won a non-major event this season, as his best finish on the PGA Tour came at the Wells Fargo Championship and The Players Championship, where he was the runner-up.
